These requirements are based upon (but not limited to) Chapter 1, sections 110.7, 110.10 and 111.0 of the Massachusetts State Building Code.
NEW HOMES, ADDITIONS, RENOVATIONS
- Fill out the building permit application (both sides).
- Include two copies of a complete set of framing plans, showing how the floor, walls, ceiling, roof, etc. is being framed. No cross sections. Also include a foundation plan showing the thickness of walls, and the location of windows or vents.
- Include the floor plan of all levels of the house, including the basement, with each room clearly marked as to its use.
- For new homes and additions, a copy of the MEC check is to be submitted.
- For remodeling jobs, the plan should indicate the areas of where the work is to occur and a framing plan (as listed in Item #2).
- All areas that are to be insulated are to be indicated and to be marked as to their R-value.
- A plot plan to scale (not hand drawn) is to be submitted with the application, clearly showing the exact location of the proposed project. Check with the Board of Health for a plan.
SHEDS, DECKS
- Fill out the building permit application (both sides).
- Two copies of a complete set of framing plans, showing how the floor, walls, roof, etc. is being framed for the shed.
- For a deck, the plans are to show the framing of the deck, the size of the footings, the depth of the footings, and the railing with the balusters.
- A plot plan to scale (not hand drawn) is to be submitted with the application, clearly showing the exact location of the proposed project. Check with the board of Health for a plan.
SWIMMING POOLS
- NO Swimming Pool permit shall be issued until the electrical permit is also applied for.

REVIEW TIME
In accordance with Massachusetts State building Code, Chapter1, Section 111.1, the Inspector has thirty (30) days to review a permit application. This office aims for a turnaround period of within two (2) weeks of receiving the application. FAXED SIGNATURES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
